Planning a trip to Egypt? The first thing you need is a visa. Since 2017, Egypt offers an electronic visa (e-Visa) for citizens of many countries. Here is everything you need to know.
What is the Egypt e-Visa?
The e-Visa is an official authorization to enter Egypt, obtained entirely online. It avoids visiting an embassy and saves time at the airport. It is valid for tourism or business short stays.
Who can apply?
Citizens of over 70 countries, including the USA, Canada, EU member states, Australia, New Zealand, etc. Check the official portal for your eligibility.
Types of e-Visa
- Single entry: valid for 3 months from issue, stay up to 30 days.
- Multiple entry: valid for 6 months, stay up to 30 days per visit.
Requirements
- Valid passport (at least 6 months beyond arrival).
- Digital passport photo.
- Email address.
- Credit/debit card for payment.
- Travel itinerary (hotel booking, flight).
Application process
- Fill the online form on the official e-Visa portal.
- Upload documents and photo.
- Pay the fee (approx. $25 for single, $60 for multiple).
- Receive e-Visa by email within 3-7 business days.
At the airport
Print the e-Visa and present it with your passport upon arrival. Keep a copy in your luggage. Occasionally immigration may ask for proof of accommodation or return ticket.
Alternative: Visa on Arrival
If your country is eligible, you can also get a visa on arrival at major airports (cost $25 cash). However, the e-Visa is recommended to avoid queues.
