Luxor, the world's greatest open-air museum, enjoys a desert climate with hot summers and mild winters. Choosing the right time can make your visit much more enjoyable.

Overview of Seasons

  • Winter (December–February): Daytime 20–25°C, nights cool (5–10°C). Perfect for sightseeing, but crowds peak.
  • Spring (March–April): Warm 25–30°C, occasional khamsin winds (dust storms). Good for visiting, less crowded.
  • Summer (May–September): Extremely hot, 35–45°C. Early morning visits essential. Low season, great deals.
  • Autumn (October–November): Pleasant 25–30°C, similar to spring. Ideal weather.

Best Months: October–April

October and November offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds than winter. February and March are also excellent. Avoid June–August unless you can handle extreme heat.

Special Events

  • Sun alignment at Karnak Temple (winter solstice – Dec 21).
  • Abu el-Haggag festival (mid-November) with traditional boat procession.
  • Opet Festival (re-enactment in Luxor Temple, variable dates).

Tips for Visiting

  • Book accommodations well in advance for December–January.
  • Start tours at sunrise to beat heat and crowds.
  • In summer, rest during midday and explore late afternoon.
